Hopefully you never find yourself in a situation like this: 

 

A few days ago, one of your employees came to you with a broken Blackberry that needed replacing. 

 

Unfortunately, they were not eligible for an upgrade yet. 

 

Fortunately, you were able to secure a used device from the neighboring business, who had recently switched carriers and mobile devices. 

 

You wiped the device (removed the previous stored information), swapped the SIMs (removed the previous card & inserted your  user’s SIM) and then had that user set a device password. 

 

So far all is good.

I was faced with a problem the other day with one of our clients – they wanted to get a Blackberry for a user – however – this user did not require a data plan. They wanted him to have a blackberry to keep all company hardware uniform for internal reasons –  however  - they were discouraged at the price of the hardware due to not having a data plan!

Example Rogers BB 9800 $99.99 on a 3 yr term with data – with no data plan the unit will be $424.99 on a 3 yr term  –  In order to oblige the client with desired pricing – and follow the system guidelines set out by the carrier –  we utilized the following solution!

Accenting your Messages on your Blackberry

How do you Accent your Messages on your Blackberry?

There are at least 6700 recognized languages used in the world, and, chances are, you speak at least one of them. Maybe two. Perhaps more.
And chances are, if you speak the language, there may come a time where you will need to compose some sort of message, maybe even on your Blackberry.
Problem is, that often languages have funny letters and accents. When was the last time you have seen an ß, an É or an ñ on your keypad?
Your first guess might be to pull up your symbols menu, but alas, the accents are not to be found.
Fear not my fellow multi-linguists! There are a couple simple solutions for you!

How to Tether your Smartphone to the BlackBerry Playbook

Tethering your Smart Phone and BlackBerry Playbook!

For some, part of the perk of sitting down in your favorite coffee shop with your ‘For Here, Grande, Non-Fat, No Water, 180 Degrees, Chai Tea Latte’ is connecting your BlackBerry Playbook to the available Wifi network and browsing the web while you enjoy your drink. Your latte isn’t quite the same without perusing your recent emails or perhaps catching up on the latest celebrity gossip).  Best part is that you aren’t using the data included in your plan! (hmmm…. maybe now is a good time to download those large files…)

 

While connecting to Wi-fi is great, it may not always be convenient, particularly if you live in a more rural area( Wifi hotspots can be few and far between) or if you are on the move( while it might be nice, all day in the shop is probably not in the cards).

Since the BlackBerry Playbook was released in a Wi-fi version only, this might pose a problem for you.

I am sure there are people out there (and hopefully I am not the only one) that are NOT heavy duty power users with their BlackBerry.
They wanted a phone to be a phone, and add in the email capability, maybe some web browsing, and there ya go.
Yes I know that the smartphones now do that without breaking a sweat and so much more. But for some people the so much more is not needed or wanted for a variety of reasons.

Using your BlackBerry as a Portable Flash Drive with Mass Storage Mode.

Chances are that for Work, school, or even for a hobby, you have toted around a USB flash drive (or two) in order to carry your files around with you.

One of the benefits of these little gadgets,  is that they are highly portable, nice and small, and fit nicely into ones pocket/purse/briefcase/laptop bag. :)
