Help! My iPhone is Frozen: How to Reset Your iPhone.

How to Reset Your iPhone

Perhaps this has happened to you:

Mid App/song/call/ whatever, and your iPhone freezes. No warning. Just the same unresponsive screen.

What do you do?

Doing a simple reset might help you solve your problems.

  • Hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together, for about ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
  • This should reset your iPhone and bring you back to your Home screen unscathed.

What if your iPhone seems to have a more serious problem, like constantly restarting but never coming to the Home screen, or your iPhone freezes with the Apple logo on the screen and stays there for over 10 minutes?

You may have to put your iPhone into Recovery Mode.

  • Start off the same way by holding the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together until the Apple logo appears.
  • Release the Sleep/Wake button and keep holding the Home button, and eventually you will see a Connect to iTunes screen.

(like this one!)
  • Connect your iPhone to iTunes, and you should get a message saying iTunes has detected an iPhone in Recovery Mode. Click OK
  • This should bring you to your iPhone pane, where you will see ( and click!) a Restore button. When it boots up again, you have a working iPhone again!

Note: This will erase the content on your phone, but if you sync your phone with iTunes regularly, it will just restore from a previous back up.

    • Just trying to help says:

My boyfriend just had this prob. and I wiped it down with a dryer sheet because I had been told that static can build up in the phones ( I have a smart phone and Verizon told me this when my phone locked up and said to take out the battery and and try and restart my phone). However, the i phone does not have a battery to take out and I know that dryer sheets take away static if you rub them on pantyhose. Along time ago my mom had also told me to spray downy around the tower of my computer when I was having problems. We had plugged his i phone 4S into every wall, car, computer port we have, and tried many restarts with both buttons. Hope this might work for someone else.

  2. what if Itunes does not detect your iphone. then what?

    • Try uninstalling iTunes, rebooting your computer and re-installing iTunes.

You can also try these solutions from the Apple support site:

      For Windows: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538

      For Mac: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1591

If you are using Windows 7, try disabling the Windows 7 USB power management. This works for most machines.
      – search devmgmt.msc from the start menu.
-under Universal Serial Bus, right click one of the Root Hub devices, and select Properties ( you will have to do this for each one)
-Under Advanced, uncheck the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power box. Hit Ok.
      – Reboot your computer, and you should be good to go.

      Hopefully this helps!
