In your company, there are likely several employees who have or will need to travel abroad for work-related reasons. In all likelihood, they will need to take their company cell phone in order to take calls, receive emails and continue on with regular business while they are gone. In terms of mobile device management, this is generally  an issue-free occurrence, but what do you do if this happens:

 

You have a user who is travelling abroad, and soon after they were scheduled to land,  you receive a frantic email from them. I was faced with a problem the other day with one of our clients – they wanted to get a Blackberry for a user – however – this user did not require a data plan. They wanted him to have a blackberry to keep all company hardware uniform for internal reasons –  however  - they were discouraged at the price of the hardware due to not having a data plan!

Horror Story of the Week: How Not to Do a Hardware Upgrade

Hardware Upgrade Mishap: Imagine yourself in this situation: 

 

You are faced with the task of getting a new employee a new phone and number. In order to keep costs down, you decide to recycle one of the old unused numbers on your account.  You Find a number on your bill that is showing no usage and has the user name of employee who is no longer with the company.  A quick call to the carrier customer service confirms that there has been no usage, so you go ahead with the upgrade and switch to a new SIM card.

How do you Accent your Messages on your Blackberry?

There are at least 6700 recognized languages used in the world, and, chances are, you speak at least one of them. Maybe two. Perhaps more.
And chances are, if you speak the language, there may come a time where you will need to compose some sort of message, maybe even on your Blackberry.
Problem is, that often languages have funny letters and accents. When was the last time you have seen an ß, an É or an ñ on your keypad?
Your first guess might be to pull up your symbols menu, but alas, the accents are not to be found.

How to Tether your Smartphone to the BlackBerry Playbook

Tethering your Smart Phone and BlackBerry Playbook!

For some, part of the perk of sitting down in your favorite coffee shop with your ‘For Here, Grande, Non-Fat, No Water, 180 Degrees, Chai Tea Latte’ is connecting your BlackBerry Playbook to the available Wifi network and browsing the web while you enjoy your drink. Your latte isn’t quite the same without perusing your recent emails or perhaps catching up on the latest celebrity gossip).  Best part is that you aren’t using the data included in your plan! (hmmm…. maybe now is a good time to download those large files…)

 

While connecting to Wi-fi is great, it may not always be convenient, particularly if you live in a more rural area( Wifi hotspots can be few and far between) or if you are on the move( while it might be nice, all day in the shop is probably not in the cards).

Since the BlackBerry Playbook was released in a Wi-fi version only, this might pose a problem for you.
