In terms of mobile device management for your business, have you ever had to send a defective phone away for replacement? Generally the process is simple and the replacement unit is on your desk within a week or so.
What happens though if that is not the case? Imagine yourself in this situation:
If you have just lost, misplaced or have had your Blackberry, iPhone, Smartphone, Internet Stick (or any mobile device) stolen – the very first thing you should do is PANIC!

I was faced with a problem the other day with one of our clients – they wanted to get a Blackberry for a user – however – this user did not require a data plan. They wanted him to have a blackberry to keep all company hardware uniform for internal reasons – however - they were discouraged at the price of the hardware due to not having a data plan!
Example Rogers BB 9800 $99.99 on a 3 yr term with data – with no data plan the unit will be $424.99 on a 3 yr term – In order to oblige the client with desired pricing – and follow the system guidelines set out by the carrier – we utilized the following solution!
This is really nothing new – however – very often forgotten about until your Cell Phone Bill arrives.
Although there are data roaming features that can be added through your carrier’s Cellular Customer Service before you travel – using data can still be very expensive. Not to mention data usage is hard to judge – How do you know how much Data you will use while traveling or roaming?
If you are traveling with your smartphone and you do not want to rack up huge data roaming charges, it’s good to know that your handset has the ability to temporarily turn the data function off.
For some, part of the perk of sitting down in your favorite coffee shop with your ‘For Here, Grande, Non-Fat, No Water, 180 Degrees, Chai Tea Latte’ is connecting your BlackBerry Playbook to the available Wifi network and browsing the web while you enjoy your drink. Your latte isn’t quite the same without perusing your recent emails or perhaps catching up on the latest celebrity gossip). Best part is that you aren’t using the data included in your plan! (hmmm…. maybe now is a good time to download those large files…)
While connecting to Wi-fi is great, it may not always be convenient, particularly if you live in a more rural area( Wifi hotspots can be few and far between) or if you are on the move( while it might be nice, all day in the shop is probably not in the cards).
Since the BlackBerry Playbook was released in a Wi-fi version only, this might pose a problem for you.
You and your phone have become inseparable. It is an extension of your arm, of your self!
So when your cell phone ends up a little on the wet side (OK, a lot on the wet side), you become desperate.
