10 Simple Steps to Blackberry Email Set Up to BIS Server

Blackberry Email Setup to BIS Server

Have you been given the frustrating task to set up blackberry email to a BIS Server or create a blackberry login? Have you been told by the carrier, that what was once available through their website, a channel to complete the setup, was no longer offered as Blackberry was no longer permitting the carrier to provide this. Whether we believe this or not, it certainly has caused allot of challenges for users.  The alternative for this, is setting up via the Blackberry itself, which can be challenging all on its own. So we cornered our ClientCare Team to give us the steps to make it happen in an easy step by step process. Below are 10 simple steps that as of this posting have seemed to do it for most users. Hope this helps.

How to set up email on Blackberry and create a Web Login from your Blackberry phone:

1. Push the Blackberry key to bring up the menu and go to Set up. Then Email Set up/ Email Accounts. It will connect to the service.
2. Read and agree to the Blackberry Service Agreement.
3. When it brings up the email options ( Yahoo, Gmail, etc. ) go to Other
4. Enter the Email and Password of your email account
      >You may get a message “ Invalid email address or Password. Verify your email address and password. If the error persists please contact…..” Hit  OK and it should bring up a link “ I will provide email settings”
5. Make sure the POP/IMAP option is hilighted, confirm the email address and password. Enter you email server ( get this from your IT Manager or email provider ) and the username for the server  then hit continue
6. The next screen should be a confirmation screen, saying that the set up is complete. You should start receiving emails on the phone.

not quite done though….
7. Return to the setup screen and got back in to the email setup up. You should see the email that you just set up. Hit the Blackberry key to bring up the full menu, then select “Create User name” . You will get a screen advising you that this is a permanent change and the steps required. Hit Continue.
8. This will bring up the login screen. Enter a user name and password
9. You will have to validate the email account by putting the email password in again. Once done you should get a screen saying that the password was successfully validated.
10. The email is now successfully set up and you can exit out of the set up screen. Take a break you’ve earned it!

[DDET Transcription of Video – Click to Expand]

Hello Everybody, George Gill here from GILL Technologies with this week’s tip of the week.

Thanks for joining me again and today were going to be talking about a very specific issue that’s affecting blackberry users, and that’s the setup of e-mail, blackberry e-mail set up with the biz server.  Okay now this is a big problem and it’s getting a lot of attention on line, but it really is focused at certain carriers at the moment.  So because of that I’m going to include a little something extra at the end of this video so hold on.  I have an amazing statistic that was brought up to my attention by our analysis team, which I will share with you, which is going to blow your mind I think, it certainly blew mine so hang on for that, we’re going to talk about that at the end of this video.  But for now, how do you setup your blackberry e-mail with your BIS server or your BEZ server.

Okay, so the reason why this is an issue for so many is because a lot of the carriers used to be able to go online and do all your setup and configuration right there.  A lot of the carriers and I say a lot very very globally, because not all of them yet, but certainly a lot of carriers not mentioning names like Rogers or anything like that, have removed that capability from their site to be able to set up e-mail for the blackberry.  And the reason why is because the customer service calls that were coming in and carriers being of the support those customer service calls was a challenge to say the least.  Now when we talk to the carriers off the record, they tell us that it’s blackberry that’s removed that capability, but that’s not really the case because there are quite a few carriers out there that you can still set up your blackberry e-mail to the biz server online.  So how do you do it, well, the only other option for you is to do the setup via the blackberry itself.  So, what we’ve done rather than me talk about these steps if you’re one of those unique individuals that has that issue, where going to post the steps right on our blog post with this video and all you need to do is go to www.gill-technologies.com, we will put the link right here on the site and go to the blog and see this posting, actually I’ll put a link right to this blog posting so it lays out the details of step-by-step how you do it on your blackberry.  Okay and by all means, share with us, let us know if you have a situation where you once upon a time could set up your blackberry e-mail on the carrier site but today can’t because we would be curious to hear what other carriers have removed it, remove that capability from their site.

Ok, so I promised you a great statistic and I actually wrote this down because I want to get it exactly right, this is goping to blow your mind, the New America Foundation for Open Technology initiative compared cell phone plans in 11 countries, okay, and found that both pre-and post paid, which is whether you’re pre-paying for your cell phone or you’re buying packages the prices are steepest, that’s steepest, not cheapest in Canada followed by the US, okayn then the UK and then Japan and what have you.  The prices are actually cheapest in India, Hong Kong and Sweden and were talking dramatic.  So we took a look some of these results in it and here you go.  The sum of the minimum monthly cost of the best available postpaid voice, text, and data plans amounted to $67.50 US in Canada.  So that’s US dollars for Canadian plans.  The US comes in a very close second at $59.99 for comparable package.  In Sweden that same level of service will cost just 34.05 US, while residents of India would only pay $12.90 US.  Is that mind blowing or what, oh my gosh.  In most countries, the biggest reason for this, most countries especially North America customers are charged for outgoing calls, but that’s not the case in Canada and the US where users can be charged for both incoming and outgoing. Canada is however one of the only five countries that offers unlimited text plans, and so we really have to congradulate Canada, that they’ve added unlimited text plans, I know certain other countries you can to but there is only five that this particular case study could find, so pretty interesting.

But anyways thanks for joining me George Gill from GILL Technologies this week’s tip of the week, go to our blog get the details if you’re having those challenges on setting up your blackberry e-mail and hopefully that’ll help you or help you out, look forward to seeing you next week.  Have a great week![/DDET]
